Moderated by: Paul Melcher. Think metadata can protect your images? Think again. As unauthorized use rises and authenticity grows critical, photo agencies need tools that go deeper. This session demystifies digital watermarking—what it really is, how it works, and what it can actually do. From detecting infringements and tracing leaks to verifying authenticity and tracking market usage, we’ll cover the real-world use cases that matter. Hear directly from agencies using Imatag’s invisible watermarking today—and what they’ve discovered about where their images go, and who’s using them.
Moderated by: Katherine Briggs. This one-hour legal panel will provide a comprehensive update on key AI-related legislation worldwide, including the UK’s AI proposals and TDM exception, the EU AI Act Code of Practice, and the evolving AI Fair Use cases in the USA. Experts will discuss the impact of these regulations on copyright, liability, and the future of licensing in the digital age.
Moderated by: Valérie Théveniaud-Violette. What is a “real” image? What is a “good” or “ethical” GenAI dataset? Are news photographers the only “real” photographers? Do you want to know what a CEPIC working group has to say about it? A CEPIC working group has attempted to define "Authenticity”. Want to know where we landed? Come find out! Moderator is Valérie Théveniaud-Violette
Moderated by: Isabelle Galy. It will also look at alternative opt-in technical solutions.
Moderated by: Anna Dickson. This session will tackle one of the most pressing questions in the industry: how to effectively license content for AI training. Drawing from real-world negotiations, experts will explore licensing models, the viability of collective licensing as an alternative to AI scraping, and strategies for ensuring fair compensation for rights holders."
Organised in collaboration with the industry standards group IPTC, hear short presentations and pitches from IPTC member organisations and others on new ideas and new technologies that can help you to do business in this fast-changing industry.
Moderated by: John Balean. In this panel, we will explore the role of blockchains, and other mechanisms, that preserve provenance, record process, and create trust and transparency in relation to image archives and licensing. This is primarily a response to the rapid circulation of visually convincing Generative AI imagery which has added a new layer of intentional and unintentional disinformation in all forms of media.
In this hands-on session, Brendan Quinn, Managing Director of the IPTC, takes participants through best practices in creating and maintaining image and video metadata. Using the Adobe Custom Metadata plugin and other popular tools, we show how to create and maintain metadata for AI licensing, AI declaration, licensing URLs and more. We also show how IPTC metadata is displayed and used in user-facing products from Google, Apple, Microsoft and others.
