Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory

A major new study coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and led by the BBC has revealed that leading AI assistants — including ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity — frequently misrepresent news content across languages and countries. Involving 22 public service media organisations, the research found that 45% of AI-generated answers contained significant issues, raising urgent concerns about information integrity and public trust in the AI era.
