How Can We Detect AI-Generated and AI-Modified Images?

Exploring the Possibilities and Limits of AI Detection

‍

CEPIC Webinar | 20 October 2026 | 17:00 CET

‍

As AI-generated and AI-modified imagery floods the internet and becomes increasingly sophisticated, being able to determine what is real, what has been altered and how it has been altered is becoming an increasingly important challenge for the visual media industry and for the news and media sector.

‍

But how reliable are today’s detection tools? What can they identify, and what are their limitations?

‍

On 20 October at 17:00 CET, CEPIC will host a webinar exploring how AI-generated and AI-modified content can be detected, with a primary focus on images.

‍

The session will bring together Florian Barbaro, CEO of UncovAI, and Mete Zihnioglu, Directeur Général of Sipa Press, combining expertise in AI detection with the practical experience of an independent press agency working with press photographs.

‍

The webinar will look at the possibilities and current limitations of AI image detection, using practical examples to explore what happens when images are generated, edited, cropped, retouched or modified in different ways.

‍

We need your images!

‍

To make the webinar as practical and relevant as possible, we are inviting CEPIC members to contribute images that can be used as real-world examples during the session.

‍

We are particularly interested in:

  • Original images with no modifications
  • Images retouched or edited using Photoshop or other software
  • Images fully or partially generated or modified using AI
  • Cropped or resized images
  • Images that have undergone several different types of modification
  • Any other examples that could provide an interesting test case or discussion point

‍

If you would like to contribute, please send us 2 – 5 images and, where possible, briefly indicate what has been done to each image, for example, whether it is an original, Photoshop edit, AI modification, crop or combination of different modifications.

‍

The images will be used for educational purposes during the webinar to demonstrate the possibilities and limitations of detecting AI-generated and modified content.

‍

More information about the webinar and registration will follow soon.
