EU copyright Directive

What trade organisations say …

Video and sports

The Video and Sports industries stepped back from the EU Directive in December 2018. In this letter they argue in substance that the current jurisprudence is better the proposed directive.

Music

Letter of February 2019:  IFPI (majors), IMPALA (Independent labels), ICMP (music Publishers)

"The proposed approach would cause serious harm by not only failing to meet its objectives, but actually risking leaving European producers, distributors and creators worse off”.

Authors Society

GESAC representing music authors expresses "strong support" and calls for the "adoption of the Directive". They write: "Without this Directive, creators will be entirely deprived of any means to get a fair remuneration in the online Environment: the market will be entirely driven by commercial interests of free-riding tech Giants."

EVA representing visual authors (including DACS, ADAGP, Bildkunst etc.) supports the last Romanian compromise. It is to be noted that they support Art.13 but their Statement makes no mention of Art.13 b) (referrring to payment from image search engines)

Press Publishers

"Europe’s press Publishers ...call upon Member States in a letter to move forward with the reform and adopt the mandate in order for the final negotiations to take place next week."

Journalists

“This directive must offer authors in the press sector a fair and proportionate share, distinct from salary and irrespective of contractual arrangements, employment contracts and national industry licensing standards, said Anthony Bellanger, IFJ General Secretary. If the directive, instead of improving rights enshrines inequality and upholds restrictions in Article 11 and Recital 35, it is not worth having it”.

"You wan´t to put in place massive restrictions on how we as users can upload content online, restrict freedom of speech and kill many plattforms we use on the internet in one interest only: Making even more money. It is disqusting."
