Frankfurt (Germany), 3 June 2025 – The European Pressphoto Agency B.V. (EPA Images) proudly hosted the second edition of the EPA Awards, honoring outstanding achievements, contributions, and values demonstrated by EPA Images staff across the globe in 2024. The ceremony recognized excellence in photojournalism, commitment to EPA Images’ core values, and exceptional service within the agency
This year’s awards once again highlighted the dedication and talent of EPA Images’ international team, from rising stars in photography to long-standing contributors behind the scenes.
The EPA Achiever of the Year 2024 was awarded to Anna Szilagyi, who joined EPA Images in 2023 and quickly established herself as a standout in the world of sports photography. In 2024, she was recognized by several international bodies, including the International Sports Press Association and World Athletics, and “significantly elevated the EPA Images brand,” said the jurors.
The EPA Legacy Award 2024 went to bookkeeper Thomas Kröemer, whose more than 16 years at EPA Images have made him the longest-serving member of the Finance and Administration department. An example of loyalty and dedication, said the jury members, Thomas “has been with EPA through thick and thin, navigating challenging times with unwavering commitment.”
Recognized with the EPA Values@Work Award 2024, Laura Ochs has been praised for her exceptional commitment to colleagues as a member of the Human Resources team. Known for her readiness to assist, Laura demonstrates EPA Images’ core values of collaboration, transparency, and responsibility, according to the jurors.
“Our work at EPA Images is driven by the incredible people behind the lens and behind the scenes,” said Julia R. Arévalo, President & CEO of EPA Images. “These awards are our way of acknowledging not just the excellence, but also the passion, dedication, and integrity that define EPA Images’ values. It is a privilege to work alongside such committed professionals.”
The company also recognized the exceptional contribution, both in quantity and quality, of three of its visual journalists, Yemeni Yahya Arhab, British Andy Rain and Pakistani Shahzaib Akber, who won the first, second and third prize of the EPA Top Contributor Award 2024.
Finally, the EPA Image of the Year Award 2024 was awarded to Gjorgi Lichovski, a seasoned EPA photographer whose work continues to resonate on a deeply human level. His winning image, chosen by EPA staff across the agency, captures a stargazer during the Perseid meteor shower over Kozjak Lake in August last year in North Macedonia.
The award winners received a plaque at today’s ceremony with their colleagues in Frankfurt, together with a bonus and some extra perks.
