On 10 June 2026, the European Union published its Code of Practice on the Transparency of AI-Generated Content. This is prior to the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) coming into force on 2 August 2026.
The Code provides practical guidance for organisations developing, deploying or using AI systems that generate synthetic content. By setting out best practices for identifying, labelling and disclosing AI-generated content, the Code aims to support compliance with future regulatory obligations. It will soon be complemented by guidelines.
While the Code of Practice is voluntary, signing it will be presumed to demonstrate conformity to the law.
