Hannah Hess new Editor-in-Chief of epa european pressphoto agency
Hannah Hess, 44, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the european pressphoto agency epa. This was announced in Frankfurt today by epa’s President and CEO, Jörg Schierenbeck.
Hess, who holds an MA in Political Science and a BA in Business and Economics, joined epa in 1995 when she started as an editor on the news desk. Since then, she held various senior positions in the editorial management, including Deputy Head of Product Quality Enhancement and the Arts, Culture and Entertainment desk, Senior Editor and Supervising Editor. Her experience comprises general news, sports and entertainment; in all categories, Hess organized, supervised and participated in numerous international assignments. In addition, Hannah Hess gathered experience working with epa’s Directors of Business Development and of International Marketing & Sales.
“Hannah is our ideal choice for a seamless transition and change of generation in the editorial management,” Schierenbeck said, praising her leadership qualities, innovative spirit and versatility. “With Hannah as Editor-in-Chief and her Deputies Gernot Hensel, Frank Bengfort and Monika Plhal, we have the perfect editorial management team to cope with the challenges of the future, in a world of an ever growing demand for unique newsphoto coverage,” Schierenbeck added.
Later in spring this year, Hannah Hess will take over the position of Editor-in-Chief from Cengiz Seren, 58, who followed a call from abroad for a new professional challenge, after a total of 19 years with epa, in two takes, including the past nine years as Editor-in-Chief of the new, global epa established in 2003.
“We thank Cengiz for all his hard work in setting up epa’s global operations in 2003 and for successfully heading epa’s global coverage since then, and on behalf of the entire epa team around the globe, I wish him all the best for his personal and professional future,” Schierenbeck said.
