epa photographer died after suicide bomb attack in Quetta, Pakistan
Ejaz Raeesani, 30, epa photographer in Balochistan, Pakistan was fatally wounded in a suicide bomb attack whilst covering a rally by Shiite Muslim Community in Quetta on September 3, 2010.
He succumbed to his wounds yesterday, September 6, 2010 in the hospital where he was treated. He was buried today following a funeral ceremony in his native town of Mastun in the Balochistan province of Pakistan.
Ejaz joined epa in 2008 as a free-lance photographer after having worked two years for Asaaf newspaper in Quetta and three years with the ARY TV network as a cameraman. During his time with epa, the quality of Ejaz' images brought an eye-opening insight into the hardships of the daily life in the region he covered, the circumstances of his own death bringing a tragic testimony to this fact.
In a joint declaration, the epa president & CEO Joerg Schierenbeck and Editor-in-Chief Cengiz Seren condemned this senseless act of purposeless violence and expressed their grief for the loss of Ejaz and numerous other victims who lost their lives in this blind act of violence, expressing their deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife and two children on behalf of all the staff of epa.
