ByPieter DoormanThe first NLimage Fair on Wednesday the 12th of October was a great success. For the first time, NLimage organised a fair for picture editors, art buyers and art directors. A good 250 image users made their way Amsterdam.
The theme of the event, image use, was carried out by a series of presentations. Opening speaker was Ouke Arts, advisor and researcher with media strategy agency Thaesis. With a waterfall of images and statistics he showed new trends in the media. The highlight in his presentation where the 75 new developments and applications currently in the media. In doing so he made evident that a revolution is happening in this industry, a revolution that is not even near its end.
Marco Oonk, former Getty Images employee and founder of Fast Media Magazine, talked about the consequences of the media revolution in the field of photography
Lawyer in the field of copyright Christiaan Alberdingk Thijm (SOLV) went into copyright law, legalities around portrait publication, and emphasised on copyright holder contract law. This law has been created to strengthen the position of the photographer in relation to larger companies. The themes triggered the audience to raise specific questions concerning them directly.
The final speakers, Bas van Beek (Hillcreek, Corbis) and Roel Sandvoort (Hollandse Hoogte) created momentum for the audience to engage their story into the dialogue. What do art buyers expect from their suppliers? Some of the highlights where the value of service and the ability to think along with the customer about their wishes. An appreciation of offering wider selections than initially requested was also underlined.
Between the presentation sessions, visitors were given ample opportunity to visit the tables of the 14 participating companies, all of which presented their image collections to the public. For many it was a great opportunity to meet colleagues and suppliers in person. The success of the day suggests a next NLimage Fair in 2012.
