Greetings from Valencia!
Karen Sahoy and Sylvie Fodor checking out venues and hotels in Valencia on 29 July (Mobile phone picture)
Valencia and Istanbul are competing to be Congress venue next year in 2011! The final decision will be in August based on the results of the site inspections. First venue to be visited: Valencia.
Located next to the sea side, Valencia allies a dense monumental heritage and an avant-garde and futuristic architectural complex. It is full of light and burns with Mediterranean sun. It is the third largest city in Spain with direct flight connections from London, Paris, New York, Madrid, several cities in Italy and in Germany.
We need spaces to accomodate a minimum of 600 delegates, 100 tables, 10 trade stands, an auditorium of 300 people for the New Media Conference II, breakout session rooms, meeting rooms in different sizes for companies, a large catering area. We need to find spaces for the Welcome Reception and for the Annual Industry Party. The hotels need to be close and their rates low. We want to have splendid spaces, high-speed internet connection for all, excellent food and the best service.
The two-day trip was organised by the tourist office of Valencia. We visited four potential venues for the Congress, a couple of places to host the Welcome Reception and the Annual Industry Party. We are worn out but happy. Thank you to Manuel of Turismo Valencia for his friendly and competent welcome.
- Next week: Istanbul!

Valencia venues
Hi Sylvie, Glad you've been checking out Valencia. Bet it was roasting there! I know the city well, so do feel free to pick my brains about it. How about La Lonja for a welcome reception, a lovely building and World Heritage Site? Not sure about catering or availability there though. Also close to the historic centre. I would also recommend a taste of authentic paella and other rice/seafood dishes, as this is THE place to find the authentic article, and the famous restaurants for this (eg La Pepica) are all on the seafront in Malva Rosa. Best, Tim
