On Financing Media Sector - Ensuring The Right of Information And Freedom of Expression
ByJean-Marie CavadaTanja Fajon, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, Patrick Le Hyaric (Vice-chairs of the MEDIA intergoup), Ioan Enciu and Jean-Marie Cavada, recently table a written declaration about "On financing media sector - ensuring the right of information and freedom of expression".
We would like to emphasise the fact that media pluralism, as a prerequisite for European democracy, is not necessarly ensured by competition and technological progress, and that the media sector is facing an historical crisis.
Thus we are asking the member States and the European Commission, to support financialy the media sector while ensuring at the same time the principle of pluralism and independance of journalism as it mentioned in the article 11 the Charter of Fundamental Rights of European Union.
