Stakeholder Meeting at the CEPIC Congress 2011 Istanbul. (c) CTK Photobank, Petr Mlch.

"What are the solutions to orphan works in the picture industry?" were the questions in this specialized seminar.

As part of EU projects and consultations, CEPIC invited its partners and interested parties to an information meeting.

EU and national legislations on orphan works in several European countries will deeply affect the picture industry. The purpose of the workshop was to present existing legislative proposals and outline the support offered by visual recognition technologies. We wish to introduce the project Arrow Plus, in which CEPIC and EVA partner represent the image industry, and see how current legislative solutions and technologies articulate within this project. After Google's attempt to solve the orphan work's issue has failed, we were also looking at the outcomes in the USA on Google Books. At this workshop, CEPIC disclosed the results of a survey carried amongst historic picture archives across Europe. The sessions was illustrated by famous "orphans".
