ARROW a network of databases and a system enabling libraries to clear rights of "Works" they want to digitize.
ARROW PLUS builds on ARROW, extending the database network to the image field. EVA and CEPIC are only a small part of the ARROW PLUS project. Together, we will receive 5% of the total budget - involving for CEPIC a co-funding of 30.000 Euros.
"This is not underestimating the problem of images", said Piero Attanasio, ARROW project co-ordinator, "This on the contrary because we are aware that the image issue needs a project of its own."
In the next few months, we will concentrate fully on the work for ARROW PLUS.

The IPTC (International Telecommunications Council) is challenging vendors across the media industry to create the conditions for interoperability for metadata embedded in media files.
Following a 2006 Metadata Manifesto issued by the Stock Artists Alliance, the IPTC has created a new updated document the Embedded Metadata Manifesto to cover all media types, including stills and video. The manifesto outlines a set of 5 principles:
- Metadata is essential to identify and track digital media
- Media file formats should provide the means to embed metadata in ways that can be read by all
- Metadata values and semantics should remain the same across media formats
- Ownership metadata should never be removed

ByMarc Pinter-KrainerOne of the challenges for ICOMP member One News Page’s “Have I Been Penalized” campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of search engine penalties, is that so many website owners assume that dramatic collapses in visitor traffic are normally triggered by the regular reshufflings of Google’s index.
As you know, Google is overwhelmingly dominant in search, commanding around 70% of the global internet search market and an even higher market share across Europe.
When Google reshuffles its web index, which is known colloquially as the “Google Dance” and which occurs roughly once every three months, it can lead to changes in a site’s Google rankings.

How to cope with a challenging environment ? Angela Murphy reports on one of "the most impressive seminars organised by CEPIC at this year's conference".
The main conclusions are :
- Technology is changing more rapidly than ever before
- No business will be successful unless it watches these changes closely and adapts to them swiftly
- Mobile devices are the prime media of the future
- Visual communication is the way in which we all be communicating
- The use of moving footage is growing rapidly
- Microsales are the future but will not yield as much revenue
- Digital assets need to retain attribution information more permanently

Christina Vaughan, CEPIC President
ByJohn KennedyChristina Vaughan, founder and CEO of Image Source and president of the European trade body CEPIC, which represents over 1,000 picture sources in Europe, was speaking to siliconrepublic.com during CEPIC’s annual congress in Dublin this week.
How will the iPad, iphone or the new Samsung Wave HD phone which all feature HD screens will revolutionise the business.
"But now there are some very interesting developments. The perfect example is the iPad, this will lead to higher expectations in terms of visual literacy – provenance, the original source of quality imagery will matter because the means will exist to define who is the copyright holder, who has the right to license that image, carefully and properly.”
