The artist Christo has once again taken legal action against a picture library and won. The Berlin District Court decided on 27 September 2011 to stop a picture agency from distributing photographs of the works created by Christo and his late wife Jeanne-Claude.
The German Association of picture agencies, BVPA, asked copyright attorney Professor Dr Christian Donle for a statement on this judgement:
The wrapped Reichstag and the freedom of panoramic views
According to press releases, the Berlin District Court has pronounced an injunction against a picture agency. They have also been asked to provide information and have been condemned to pay damages because the agency distributed photographs of the wrapped Reichstag. The images had been taken by a photographer – not Christo himself.

BySarah SaundersThat's easily said, but CEPIC has taken a concrete step to help by commissioning the CEPIC/IPTC Metadata Handbook, authored by Sarah Saunders of Electric Lane with the active participation of the IPTC Photometadata Working Group.
With 76 IPTC fields now available for use, people working in the image business need an overview of metadata planning where IPTC fields are seen in a workflow context. The aim of the guide is to show how companies can follow key principles and plan metadata to suit their own resources, environment, and customer profiles. Only enter data once. Don't use software which drops metadata. Plan your workflow to included metadata. Embed critical data in the image file. ..and so on.

Spanish History
Our new collection covers imagery from Spains's early history, her famous Golden Age and twentieth-century events, such as the Spanish Civil War. The Iberian Peninsula has been the target of various civilisations: the Carthaginians and Romans fought for her control; the Moslem Arabs conquered the Visigoths and ruled for over 700 years; followed by the Christian Kings, the Habsburgs, who initiated one of the world's largest empires. Lebrecht's archive holds impressive portraits of Spanish monarchs and their battles.
