Nature Picture Library photographers have enjoyed great success this year in the world's leading wildlife and nature photography competitions.

Notably:

• Ingo Arndt won the Fritz Polking portfolio award in the German GDT competition,

• Ole Jorgen Liodden won the Animals in Environment category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition,

• Cheryl-Samantha Owen and Nick Upton won second and third prizes in the Mankind and Nature portfolio section of the French Melvita Nature Awards.

PICnight takes off!

Over 100 participants on 4 evenings!

The 4 PICnights in the cities of Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and Hamburg started as an experiment and ended having more than 100 participants. So, we will continue in 2013 with the formula "inform and networking".

The PICnights will include new themes, and will take places in different cities: Dusseldorf / Cologne, Stuttgart or Leipzig.
The BVPA will report soon about the first collection of topics.

PICnight Vol 4 in Hamburg: a Great Success

In Hamburg on 29.11.12 the BVPA organized PICnight Vol 4 which was hailed a great success. There were over 40 participants including photographers, picture agencies, and photo editors from across the city.

The Subject was "The intellectual property rights on Internet piracy" with Dr. Peter Richter, copyright and media lawyer for Kanzlei KSP. The discourse was both emphatic and dynamic, highlighting the need to assert legal requirements on the internet, constructively and critically.

The second part of the evening consisted of a first-class finger food buffet and some glasses of wine or beer, where the participants exchanged experiences on the picture market and took the opportunity to make new contacts and meet colleagues.

The photographic agency of the Centre des monuments nationaux has a rich collection of nearly 450,000 photographs directly associated with the history of the establishment, successor to the Caisse nationale des monuments historiques et des sites.

This exceptional ensemble of documents, regularly updated, is not only an interesting source of information for professionals working in the field of photography but also individuals, art historians, architects, etc. eager to find an abundant iconography of architecture from prehistoric sites through to the present day. The images of the monuments’ collections whether they are of paintings, drawings, sculptures, books and prints or furniture, are another significant part of the collection.

International stock imagery company Alamy has announced changes to the percentage of royalties it pays to contributors in order to fund expansion plans.

Despite the reduction in commission rate from 60% to 50%, Alamy remains one of the most competitive stock image companies in the market for contributors, indeed the most competitive out of all the leading agencies.

Photo agency Corbis has acquired open photo news platform Demotix following a successful investment and global media distribution partnership between the two companies announced in 2011.

Exact terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

US Association Response for Changes to UK Copyright Law
