Shortly before Christmas the time is running fast for organising the 2012 CEPIC Congress in London May 15-18.

The CEPIC Sub-Committee is concentrating its work on the Truman Brewery (sorry, no more beer produced there) - one of the most exciting places for the New Media people in the City, to make the yearly event a success for the participants from all over the world.

ByAlan SmithOne answer to those people who say Congress is expensive is this breakdown for the CEPIC Congress in London 2012:

There are 40 half hour meetings possible during the allocated table times.

For a UK delegate paying 400€ congress fee that is 10€ a meeting.

For a UK delegate plus a table that is 800€, 20€ for a meeting.

For an overseas delegate paying on average 400€ for a hotel for 4 nights, 400€ for rail or air fare, 400€ for table and 400€ congress fee, all totalling 1600€, that is 40€ per meeting.

What a bargain compared to the cost of travelling around the world for 40€ one to one meetings.

THE HAUNTED REALM – 2012.

"From the very beginning of recorded time all the great civilizations of our world have believed in the supernatural in some form or other. Simon Marsden’s startlingly atmospheric black and white photographs reveal this hidden world and his ghostly and beguiling images transport the viewer to a different realm. Accompanying the photographs is text which describes the apparitions that have been reported at each site, and the strange and often macabre real-life events which are said to lie behind them."

Carried out from April to August 2011 within the framework of ARROW PLUS, CEPIC gathered information on Orphan Works from a representative selection of commercial picture archives specialising in historic material.

28 agencies from different European countries replied to the survey. Their responses highlight inter alia reasons for orphaned works, ways of retrieving the rights holder but also costs of digitization and preservation. Additional information, examples of Orphan Works and a case study are provided in the appendix of the survey.
