Lord Younger announces £150,000 of funding for new web site designed to make it easier for consumers to obtain information about copyright.
£150,000 of funding to create a one-stop-shop web site designed to make it easier for consumers to get information about rights ownership and copyright licences, was announced today by Intellectual Property (IP) Minister, Lord Younger.
Professor Hargreaves, in his review of IP and Growth in May 2011, recommended that the UK should establish an industry-led solution to improve copyright licensing. He estimated that it could add up to £2.2 billion a year to the UK economy by 2020, with a particular benefit to the creative industries.

Six European data protection authorities to launch coordinated and simultaneous enforcement actions.
From March to October 2012, the Article 29 Working Party investigated into Google’s privacy policy with the aim of checking whether it met the requirements of the European Data Protection Directive (95/46/CE).
In view of the findings of this analysis which was published on 26 October 2012, the EU Data protection authorities asked Google to comply with their recommendations within 4 months.
After this period has expired, Google has not implemented any significant compliance measures.

An International Survey on Dispute Resolution in Technology Transactions conducted by the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center reveals that less than 2% of technology agreements lead to formal dispute proceedings, but that these proceedings are generally costly and time-consuming.
The survey report presents the practices and motivation of almost 400 survey respondents from over 60 countries, and assesses the current use and comparative merits of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods for resolving technology-related disputes. The survey report also offers observations on dispute resolution best practices based on analysis of the data compiled and interviews conducted with the survey.

By the end of this week a plenary session of the German Federal Parliament (“Bundesrat”) will decide on an ancillary copyright law for news publishers (“Leistungsschutzrecht” in German).
This will be one last opportunity to stop the controversial law approved on 1st March by the majority of the black-yellow coalition.
The German National Association of Press Picture Agencies and Picture Archives (BVPA) strongly disapprove of the law for not adequately taking into account visual content on press articles.
Pictures are essential features of press products
