Dear CEPIC friends, Today, I would like to draw your attention to the excellent conference programme of the CEPIC Congress. CEPIC and ASMP are working incredibly hard in the background to set-up a meaningful programme with the right speakers ... And you need to join the debate.

With 200 companies represented, so far, from 30 countries, CEPIC is the largest global gathering of our industry, the place to network and get up-dated about the state of our industry and tomorrow’s evolution.

  • Tuesday 11 June (*) from 11.00 H is PhotoCentric Day a conference open to picture agencies and to photographers in the auditorium of the Barcelona World Trade Center.

Screenshot Yahoo UK image search

BySylvie FodorImages search engines have rolled out changes in image display. New features infringe copyright in some countries and dramatically affect website traffic and image sales everywhere. In Germany, trade body Freelens has been successful in forcing Yahoo Images to revert to its former display.

Yahoo has implemented an image search allowing display of the images on Yahoo pages in full uncompressed size. In fact, images are very often shown in larger format on Yahoo than on the original website. Search results link directly to the image file rather than to the webpage with the image in context. Metadata is poor if not inexistent.

On 7 March, the European Commission is organising the second meeting on "Licences for Europe". CEPIC is speaking on the panel: "Automated licensing solutions (low value high volume transactions)".

The presentations will focus on these questions:

1. What are you doing to facilitate “smaller scale” use of content (high-volume, low value transactions)?
2. What are the main problems or obstacles in the market place?
3. What approaches could improve the situation?
4. What added value could this Working Group bring, taking into account existing initiatives?

Jonathan Lockwood will make the presentation. Jonathan is VP Legal Counsel at Getty Images UK, member of the board of BAPLA and Getty's representative within the project RDI.
