It was my first time at a CEPIC Congress and I am still very much impressed and motivated by all the interesting discussions and panels which I had the chance to attend.
Picture agencies find themselves in an unprecedented state of turmoil, through Digitization, arrival of Mid- and Microstock agencies, the economic crisis as well as recent technological innovations.
I had the impression during the Congress, that agencies are slowly recovering from a state of shock and are rediscovering their industry. This doesn't just show through new trends in pictures but also through a stronger economic minded orientation and through new business and pricing models.

On 15 November 2009, CEPIC submitted a response to the Europeana questionnaire, at least to some of the questions most relevant to our industry.
"We support the Europeana initiative as a not for profit project aimed at education and research and welcome the questionnaire as a way to bring Europeana to the next level. Europeana should be a label of quality for researchers in Europe and all over the world. It should be a leader in transmitting knowledge.
CEPIC wishes to offer the perspective of copyright owners professionally managing huge digital databases and proposing millions of quality image material from the birth of photography to the present day.

CEPIC’s membership is directly affected by the Settlement.
CEPIC’s membership is directly affected by the Settlement as millions of books digitized by Google include photographs. A small part of our members licence illustrations for children’s books – included in the Agreement – other will represent photographers who hold copyright in books. Sooner or later, Google will pursue all photographic rights and work out its conditions, as has been done for writers’ rights in the present Settlement.
CEPIC is not opposed to general or special agreements between Google and libraries or universities.
