BySarah SaundersIt was great to have the IPTC Photo Metadata Conference in London this year. Metadata has moved now to a central position in the image licensing industry. Our topic covered two aspects of search- finding the image and finding the rightsholders - both essential for the future of the image business.

The full agenda for the conference is shown on the IPTC web site, and I report here on the sessions I was closely involved in. Overall, the conference was a great success, with excellent speakers and very good feedback from attendees. Image search was a major topic, with sessions chaired by David Riecks including reports on visual search techniques, controlled vocabularies, crowd sourcing, linked data and indexing images for web search.

London CEPIC Week: Great for Business!

London CEPIC week closed on an absolute high on Friday night with an amazing Annual Industry Party sponsored by Corbis at Somerset House where delegates were able to enjoy a fabulous exhibition organised by the prestigious World Photography Association.

The resounding message coming back from this year's Congress was how great it had been for business! In a week that saw more economic crisis and concern in the Eurozone, it was wonderful to hear how much business had been done - new and old - and how delegates were delighted to meet so many people in one place.

As London is also my home city, I am delighted to welcome everyone to this culturally rich and ethnically diverse city celebrating its Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and an Olympic Year.

ByDavid Price-HughesNext week, over six hundred picture professionals will descend on East London for this year’s CEPIC Congress. Stock agencies will rub shoulders with heritage libraries, RM will square up to RF, and this year, more than ever, footage will sit next to still photography.

Rather than events like fotofringe and Visual Connections, which attract picture buyers, the CEPIC Congress is speed dating for picture archives. We rekindle relationships with existing suppliers and agents, strike up some new friendships and flirt with the competition.

Over 600 participants registered at the London CEPIC Week!

Once again CEPIC fullfills its promise of being a major gathering of the picture industry with more than 600 participants from all five continents, all coming to meet in London at the Truman Brewery from 15 to 18 May!

Participants come from all sectors of our varied industry: stock, press, heritage photography, larger imagery providers of course with Getty Images (sponsoring a photo exhibition) and Corbis (sponsoring the Annual Industry Party), but smaller ones, including start-ups and exotic countries ...
