This year, the programme of the CEPIC Congress in Dublin was enhanced by the introduction of an extra day of Inspiration and Learning just before the actual Congress began.

New Ideas, New Speakers, New Subjects

The Conference was organised and moderated by the esteemed microstock and UGC presenter, Lee Torrens. This additional day of panels and discussion covered Microstock, Metadata, Stock Video, the use of New and Social Media as marketing tools as well as ideas on how to licence in an alternative way. The Panels addressed photographers and agencies, showing us a different perspective on the picture market.

My first impressions of Istanbul

ByKaren SahoyI left Bath early on Friday morning for Istanbul with an open mind, and keen to fill it with new experiences from Turkey, to discover whether it would indeed make a great destination for the CEPIC Congress.

4 hour flight from London, £10 visa and a couple of long queues later and I was in the heart of Istanbul.

It's hot, it's humid, its a tapestry of burnt orange, auburn, burgundy, pinks and reds, it's steeped in culture, architecture from its long and interesting history, new modern constructions rising into the skyline, rickety buildings with flower pots brimming on dilapidated balconies, lots of traffic and the most delicious smells from the restaurants spilling onto the streets.

After Valencia last week, we have now gone for a site inspection in Istanbul, from 06 August to 08 August. As a door to Asia, we think it may be an excellent venue for a CEPIC Congress.

Divided by the Bosphorus, Istanbul builds a bridge between two continents : Europe and Asia. Istanbul is both the nearest Asian city to Europe and the nearest European city to Asia. It is a huge, vibrant, metropolis of 13 million people connecting continents, cultures and religions. It is also the greatest business and cultural center of the region. It in its long history, Istanbul served as the capital city of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Many historic sites of Istanbul are listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

CTK Photobank for CEPIC

How to cope with a challenging environment ? Angela Murphy reports on one of "the most impressive seminars organised by CEPIC at this year's conference".

The main conclusions are :

  1. Technology is changing more rapidly than ever before
  2. No business will be successful unless it watches these changes closely and adapts to them swiftly
  3. Mobile devices are the prime media of the future
  4. Visual communication is the way in which we all be communicating
  5. The use of moving footage is growing rapidly
  6. Microsales are the future but will not yield as much revenue
  7. Digital assets need to retain attribution information more permanently

Valencia and Istanbul are competing to be Congress venue next year in 2011! The final decision will be in August based on the results of the site inspections. First venue to be visited: Valencia.

Located next to the sea side, Valencia allies a dense monumental heritage and an avant-garde and futuristic architectural complex. It is full of light and burns with Mediterranean sun. It is the third largest city in Spain with direct flight connections from London, Paris, New York, Madrid, several cities in Italy and in Germany.
